Personal Care Assistant Job Description

  • Provide routine, personal, non-medical care (such as bathing, dressing, grooming) to the elderly, convalescent, and other clients as assigned.
  • Perform a variety of duties, including: grocery shopping, laundry, light housekeeping, and daily pet care.
  • Transport and accompany clients to personal and medical appointments outside of the home.
  • Prompt clients when it is time for them to take their medications.
  • Maintain care records and a time log, including daily tasks performed for the client, as required by State of Nevada.
  • Assist clients in safe transfers as needed.
  • Change bed linens, wash, and iron client’s laundry as needed.
  • Entertain, converse with, and read aloud to clients to keep them mentally stimulated and alert.
  • Shop for, prepare, and serve meals to clients as in accordance with the care plan.
  • Standard precautions must always be observed to avoid transfer of bacteria or contagions – it is required that all care giver wash their hands thoroughly upon entering the job site, before they put on sterile gloves, after any care is provided, and after gloves are removed. Additionally, wash your hands as needed and before leaving the job site.
  • All employees are required to report suspected cases of abuse, neglect, or exploitation as described in NRS 200.5093 and 632.472. Employees must ensure that the clients are not abused, neglected, or exploited by an attendant or another member of the staff, or by any person who is visiting the client when an attendant or another member of the staff is present.   • Employees are prohibited from offering advice, suggestions, or influencing clients in any manner regarding personal, medical, or financial information. This is a condition for employment of every attendant, caregiver, and all other personnel employed by Compassionate Care.
  • Every employee is required to complete an incident report immediately after an incident occurs and document the follow-up within 48 hours.
